Assam Congress MP Ripun Bora, on Saturday, launched an all-out attack on the BJP government at the Centre.
Ripun Bora alleged that the BJP government at the Centre is using agencies like the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax department against its political rivals across the country.
“In the 7 years of PM Modi’s rule, not a single BJP leader has been charged in any case by the CBI, ED or Income Tax. But, on the other hand, the BJP government has filed cases under CBI, ED or IT against Congress and other opposition leaders and raided their houses or confiscated their property, thereby not only harassing them but also trying to stifle the voices of the opposition through different means,” Assam Congress MP Ripun Bora alleged.
Bora added: “Prior to elections, leaders of different opposition political parties were targeted to keep them away from campaigning by interrogating them in different cases or serving notices to them.”
“Cases were lodged against leaders of Trinamool Congress by CBI, ED and IT just ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Cases were registered against West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee’s nephew and TMC general secretary MP Abhisekh Banerjee and his wife Rujira Narula. They were harassed by the CBI several times in relation with an old case related to coal pilferage. They have been summoned by the CBI several times till now,” Ripun Bora further said.
“ED raids also took place during the Kerala assembly elections. During the recently concluded Kerala Assembly elections, the ED sought to disgrace the name of Kerala CM Pinarai Vijayan and stop him from campaigning,” Bora said.
He added: “Meanwhile, in a bid to break the alliance between Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress in Maharashtra, former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh and his family’s houses were raided 5 times by the ED, CBI and IT. They were also subjected to mental harassment. In the same way, the houses of a senior leader of NCP Ajit Pawar and his relatives were raided serially and they were mentally harassed.”
“CBI, ED and IT used against Telegu Desam party of Andhra Pradesh: After Chandrababu Naidu’s Telegu Desam Party left the BJP- led NDA in November of 2018, the BJP sought to take revenge against the TDP and the ED was urged to file cases of illegal money transaction and bank fraud against Naidu’s close colleague TDP MP YS Chowdary. The harassment stopped only after Chowdary joined the BJP,” Ripun Bora alleged.
