In a significant development, Bihar chief minister and BJP ally Nitish Kumar on Monday backed the opposition demand for an investigation into the Pegasus spyware scandal.

“A probe should be done, indeed. We have been hearing about telephone tapping for so many days, the matter should be discussed (in Parliament). People (Opposition) have been reiterating (for talks) for so many days, it should be done,” said chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The issue of “snooping” using Pegasus spyware has snowballed into a massive political row in Parliament and outside as various parties are demanding a thorough investigation and sacking of Home Minister Amit Shah.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BJP ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Prahlad Singh Patel, former election commissioner Ashok Lavasa, poll strategist Prashant Kishor were among those whose phone numbers were listed as potential targets for hacking through Israeli spyware.
