GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma restated his commitment to backing Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah for the position of CM of the state.

CM Sarma emphasized his efforts in ensuring Borah’s elevation, stating, “I am striving to see him lead Assam.”

Responding to Borah’s recent remarks, Sarma conveyed his preference for Borah to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for him to become CM of Assam.

Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed to his own experience to illustrate that the BJP is an inclusive political entity where members from other parties can ascend to significant roles.

He referenced his own journey from the Congress to assuming the role of chief minister of Assam as a testament to this inclusivity.

He remarked that opposition leaders tend to only criticize the chief minister and the state government without providing constructive solutions.

“When they step up to the mic, their approach is often to hurl abuses at us, as if there are no other challenges in Assam. However, my focus remains on development. Whenever they criticize my government’s ‘people-friendly schemes,’ I will allocate additional funds to further such developmental initiatives,” noted the Assam CM.
