The four-day historic 220 years old Baresaharia Bhaona Mahotsav in Jamugurihat of Sonitpur district have been cancelled today due to bad weather.
The decision has been taken by the organizing committee after holding an emergency meeting after the heavy shower of last night.

The main pandal and khola where the Bhaona has been preformed yesterday was damaged after the heavy showers.
Bhaba Goswami General Secretary of the Bhaona Mahotsav told the media that an executive meeting was held in this regard and the decision to cancel the performance of the bhaona for the next two days was taken.
He said that, it is very sad for the people of greater Jamugurihat because for the last two months, people have waited for this. Around 200 villagers gathered to see the performance of the bhaonas. But the dismal weather didn’t allow for it to happen.

He also said that the first day of Bhaona started on Friday night which was opened by the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at 9 pm. Thousands of people thronged to watch the performance.
The rain and the thunder storm lashed the entire district and there was heavy water logging at Pakamura Pathar whish is an area of 100 bighas of land about 60 km from Tezpur and 240 km from Guwahati . The festival traces its roots to Pasigaon in Jamugurihat when the villagers first started it in 1797.
