The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has donated one of its newly acquired air-conditioned Bharat Benz bus for cancer patients from Assam in Mumbai. 

The bus will transport cancer patients from Assam Bhawan in Mumbai to the Tata Memorial Hospital and other cancer treatment centres in the Maharashtra capital.

The service will be free of cost and maintained and sponsored by Deepsikha Foundation.

Earlier, last month Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had announced that a facility will be put in place to facilitate the conveyance of the cancer patients from Assam who visit Mumbai for treatment.

ASTC chairman Ashok Kumar Bhattarai inaugurated the bus service in Mumbai.  

Notably, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had flagged off as many as 20 Bharat Benz buses in Guwahati in November.
