With incidents of attack on Congress candidates by suspected BJP workers being reported from various parts of Assam ahead of the Assembly elections, question has been raised whether the BJP leaders and workers are suffering from “depression”.
After the attack on the Congress candidate of Thowra constituency and a similar attack in Haflong constituency, suspected BJP workers attacked the vehicle of the Congress candidate for Patharkandi Assembly constituency, Sachin Sahoo on Sunday.

In protest against the attack, Congress candidate Sachin Sahoo along with other party workers and supporters staged a sit-in demonstration on the street in Patharkandi.
Patharkandi Assembly constituency falls under the Karimganj district.

Patharkandi Assembly is being currently represented by BJP MLA Krishnendu Paul who won the 2016 election receiving 46,544 votes.

In 2011, the Patharkandi seat was won by Congress’ Monilal Gowala by receiving 44,986 votes.
On Sunday afternoon, the Congress candidate from Thowra constituency in Assam’s Sivasagar district was allegedly attacked by BJP workers.
According to reports, Congress candidate Sushanta Borgohain was attacked while he was participating in an election campaign in Thowra.
The incident took place outside the Rajmai Tea Estate.
Susanta Borgohain alleged that supporters of BJP candidate from the Thowra constituency, Kushal Dowari, were behind the attack.
A similar attack was reported from the Haflong constituency.
As such attacks on Congress candidates and party offices being reported from various parts of Assam ahead of the State Assembly election, a section of people has questioned whether the leaders and workers of the saffron party are suffering from depression due to Congress’ anti-incumbency campaign is gaining momentum.
All India Mahila Congress general secretary, Danasari Anasuya alleged, “Congress karyakarta cars were attacked by BJP goons trained by Gujarat model.”
