Former Gauhati University Professor Krishna Gopal Bhattacharyya has been ranked 3rd among Indian scientists and 235th in ranking among world scientists in the field of environmental science.

Bhattacharyya is currently serving as a professor of Chemistry at Assam Don Bosco University in Guwahati.

He has been listed among the 2% of top scientists in the world by Stanford University’s team of scientists, who meticulously analysed the works and contributions of over 100,000 scientists in the world and ranked them subject-wise.

The database, created under the leadership of Dr. John PA Ioannidis, was published in a highly respected journal – PLOS Biology.

Prof Bhattacharyya obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry from Gauhati University, Ph.D. and DIC from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London.

He joined the Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University in 1975 and retired as a Professor in April 2016.

He served as the Head of the Department of Chemistry and the Dean, Faculty of Science in Gauhati University.

Prof Bhattacharya also served the UGC-Academic Staff College, Gauhati University as its director from 1997 to 2012.

Apart from this, Prof Bhattacharyya also served as the chairman of the State level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Assam under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India from March 2017 to February 2020.

More than 70 students have completed Ph.D under his guidance.

His research interests include air, water and soil chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis and environmental chemistry.

He has more than 200 research publications in international and national journals with 11267 citations, h-index of 44 and i10 index of 88 (Google Scholar).

He had successfully completed research projects from the World Bank, DST, DBT, Ministry of Environment and Forests, ISRO, DRDO and other organizations.
