Assam’s noted progressive writer and social activist Dr Anima Guha passed away in Guwahati on Thursday.

Litterateur Guha breathed her last at Arya Hospital in the city at 3.20 pm.

She was 89.

Dr Guha was admitted to the hospital after she complained of breathlessness.

She was a resident of Ulubari and wife of prominent historian, late Dr Amalendu Guha.

Dr Guha was a former president of the Nirjaton Birodhi Aikya Manch, Assam.

The books, penned by Dr Guha include “Tritiya Bishwabashinir Drishtit Naree Aaru Samaj”, “Manuh Chitrashalat”, “Emuthi Abhigyata”, “Xutar Biparite”, “Neel Akaxar Talat” and “Bipanna Prajati”.

She also wrote her autobiography in two parts under the titles “Jibanar Jowar-Bhatar Majedi” and “Bakisowa Jiban” and these two books are available on

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has deeply condoled the demise of Dr Guha.

The chief minister in a condolence message said at the demise of Dr Anima Guha Assam has lost a distinguished litterateur.

He wished eternal peace for the departed soul of the late litterateur and expressed his condolence to her bereaved family members.

The well-wishers and different organisations have expressed their condolence at the demise of the noted writer.
