Assam’s well-known mobile theatre actor and bhaona artiste, Ramen Dutta passed away on Saturday at his Potia Gaon residence in Jorhat due to a prolonged illness.

He was 53 at the time of his death.

The actor leaves behind his mother and a son.

Dutta acted in plays staged by Abahan, Hengool, Meghdoot, Mukanda, Bhaskar and Uddipana mobile theatre groups of the state.

Dutta was involved in the cultural scene of the state for over two decades and acted in several plays directed by well-known literary and cultural giant of Assam, late Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia.

Dutta was associated with Kaliyani Nabajyoti Sankari Kala Kristi Kristi Kendra and several other socio-cultural organizations in Jorhat.

Several organizations and individuals have mourned the death of the artiste.
