Assam’s latest COVID-19, victim, the 95th in the State is a 19-year-old boy from Geleky in Sivasagar.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati informed that the young boy, a student studying in New Delhi arrived by a Traveller bus on May 14 and is in quarantine at Kaziranga University in the district.

There were a total of eight passengers in the Traveller bus.

All others are also quarantined at Kaziranga University in Jorhat.

Meanwhile, the affected person has been shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Korati said though he was asymptomatic all those who came by road were being quarantined before being sent to their respective districts.

On May 9, two women and the driver of the ambulance who had come from Mumbai to Jorhat had tested positive for COVID 19 and are at present in the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

The driver of the ambulance who had gone back before the results were given, was apprehended in Bihar and also quarantined there.

All three had been found to be asymptomatic.

On May 7, six persons from Mumbai had come to Jorhat and the first batch of 37 migrants had come by their own vehicles on Friday.

Deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said out of the 37, 13 were from green zone (West Bengal), two from orange zone (Odisha, West Bengal) and 22 from red zone (Delhi, West Bengal).

The deputy commissioner further said six had come on Thursday by ambulance from red zones in Maharashtra and Bihar.

On the other hand the first batch of 37 migrant workers had alighted from the special Shramik train at Mariani railway junction here on May 14.

The deputy commissioner said cumulative from May 6 till Sunday, 948 people who had arrived by train or road had been screened in Jorhat.
