Assam’s lady doctor-turned-powerlifter wins 4 gold medals in Canada

Dr Anindita Priyadarshini Das from Assam’s Duliajan in Dibrugarh district, won 4 gold medals at the 8th Women and Men Open Masters Commonwealth Powelifting Championship recently in Canada.

The championship is being held at Newfoundland from September 15.

The event will conclude on September 21, 2019.

According to media reports, 51-year-old Das, a gynaecologist by profession, has been pursuing powerlifting career for the last two years.

She won the medals in the women’s equipped masters II category.

Reports say that a mother of two daughters, Dr Anindita Priyadarshini Das will return to Assam on September 24.

It has been reported that Dr Das initially showed interest for normal workout at a gym but she later converted her interest to professional powerlifting.

Her confidence in powerlifting has earned her four gold medals.

After her achievement, congratulations continue to pour in for Dr Das from various quarters.

Dhemaji MLA Dr Ranoj Pegu while congratulating Dr Das on his Facebook page said, “I congratulate Dr. Anindita Priyadarshini Das for snatching 4 gold medals for India in women power lifting at Commonwealth Games in Canada.”

“This is an amazing feat by a Doctor and mother of two grown up girls. Thanks for making us proud of you,” said Pegu.

Dr Das is a member of the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FICCI FLO).

The FICCI FLO North East Chapter while congratulating Dr Das on their FB page said, “Congratulations to our member Dr Anindita Priyadarshini Das. She has just won the Gold Medal for India in the women’s Power Lifting in the Commonwealth Games.”
