Students and teachers of Assam Engineering College are euphoric with the successful launch of Chandrayaan 2.

Hidam Rajeev Singh, an alumnus of Assam Engineering College was an important team member of India’s ambitious Rs 978-crore Moon Mission.

India created a history on July 22 with the successful launch of Chandrayaan 2.

Rajeev was a member of the team which produced the Stage I Solid Stage Rocket Boosters for Chandrayaan 2.

Amongst those responsible for Chandrayaan-2 successful launch, role of three scientists from Assam — J.N. Goswami, Dipak Kumar Das and Hidam Rajeev Singh, are worth mentioning.

Astrophysicist J.N. Goswami is the chairman of the advisory board for Chandrayaan-2 mission. Dipak Kumar Das is director of ISRO’s Space Applications Centre.

And young scientist Hidam Rajeev Singh also played an important role in the successful launch Chandrayaan-2.

Hidam Rajeev Singh was born at Jiribam, a small town in Manipur, bordering Cachar district of Assam. But, he had his education in Assam.

He was a student of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Pailapool in South Assam’s Cachar district.

He studied Chemical Engineering at Assam Engineering College in Guwahati.

After passing Bachelor of Engineering from Guwahati, Hidam Rajeev Singh worked with the Hindustan Zinc Ltd, world’s second-largest integrated producer of Zinc-Lead-Silver.

In 2009, he joined ISRO as Scientist at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.

Everyone in JNV Pailapool and AEC Guwahati described Rajeev as a soft-spoken sincere student.

But, his contribution in the successful launch of Chandrayaan 2 is extraordinary.

The GSLV Mark III-M1 is a three-stage launch vehicle developed by ISRO. It is made up of two solid rocket boosters, one liquid stage, and an upper cryo stage.

And, Rajeev was in the team which developed the Solid Stage Rocket Boosters.
