North Lakhimpur: In another reported case of a migrant workerโs unexplained death,a 32-year-old man from Assamโs Lakhimpur district was found dead at his workplace in Bengaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjoy Bhowmik, a resident of No. 2 Phulbari village under the Dolahat Police Outpost. He was discovered dead on May 1 at his workplace in Bengaluru, coinciding with International Workersโ Day.
According to his family, they were informed about the incident by one of his colleagues, who sent a photograph showing his body lying near an industrial machine on Friday.
Family members have expressed suspicion of foul play, noting that the factory was reportedly shut for International Workersโ Day and questioning how he could have been at the workplace under those circumstances.
Sources said Bhowmik was employed as a machine operator at SB Industries, a company known for manufacturing industrial adhesive tapes. His father alleged that there are visible injuries in the photograph, including cut marks on his neck and ear along with blood stains, indicating the possibility of murder.
Bhowmik had visited his hometown just two months ago for his wedding and returned to Bengaluru shortly thereafter. His family has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and has urged authorities to ensure that his mortal remains are brought back home.
The incident comes barely three months after a similar tragedy involving migrant workers from Lakhimpur. On January 30, four workers from Nowboicha, who were employed at a beverage warehouse in Bengaluru, were found dead inside their accommodation.
The latest case has once again raised serious concerns over the safety and security of migrant workers from Assam working outside the state.
