Assamese director Reema Kagti’s film Gold, is set to release this Independence day. Biopic of sporting heroes have always fascinated Bollywood and now the next movie on this list is Gold.

The film which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role is based on true incident of India winning the Olympic gold medal in hockey as a free nation in 1948.

The first teaser of the movie which was released on Monday has garnered instant appreciation. The movie comes with a powerful tagline – ‘Abhi tak India chup tha. Ab hum log bolega aur duniya sunega.’

The film is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Singh.

Speaking on the movie, Kagti said,  “It’s a fictional take on what happened. Also, it is not just the golden victory in 1948 we will be looking at, but it will encompass 12 crucial years in India’s history.”

To make the hockey scenes look authentic, the actors were trained by the Arjuna Award winner and former Indian National Team Captain, Sandeep Singh.

Reema Kagti, who hails from Guwahati started her career as an Assistant Director in many leading productions like Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya and Lagaan. She has assisted both siblings, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar in their directorial ventures.

She made her directorial debut with the ensemble comedy drama Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. However, her big break as a director came with Talaash, a suspense thriller starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Nawazuddin Siddique. The movie did well at the box office and fetched critical acclaim as well. Now, it is to be seen whether she can attain box office glory with Gold.
