People belonging to the Assamese community in UK on Saturday staged a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in London.
Quite a few members of the Assamese community joined the musical protest gathering, which demanded immediate scrapping of the Citizenship law.

The protesters, who gathered in front of the Parliament, sang music maestro Bhupen Hazarika’s Ami Asomiya Nohou Dukhiya and chanted anti-CAA slogans.
The protestors carried ‘gamosas’, the white and red cotton hand-woven towel, with slogans like ‘Stop CAA’, ‘Save Assam’, ‘Save Democracy’ written on them.
“We cannot accept the CAA as it will pose serious threat to Assamese language and culture,” said a protester.

Several students from Assam also took part in an anti-CAA protest organised at Bonn in Germany.
The protesting students sang – “Hum honge kamiyaab/ We shall overcome”, “Sadda Haq”, “Sarfaroshi ki tamanna”.
Holding placards that read, ‘Take your religion out of Assam’, ‘Our culture is our pride,’ ‘We will not let you murder our heritage’, ‘Stand with Assam’, they also chanted slogans in Assamese “Aei Jui Jolise, Joliboi”.
Earlier on December 15, the Assamese community in London protested against the CAA outside the Indian High Commission.
University students and professionals participated in the protest that was organised by the Facebook group ‘Assamese in UK’.
AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi earlier had thanked the Assamese community in London for raising awareness against the law.
