“The incidents of man-elephant conflict has been rising tremendously in Assam due to the shrinking of forest covers. The elephants often comes out from the forest and entered into human habitation in search of food. The government has completely failed to mitigate the man-elephant conflict,” said Devojit Moran, an environmentalist.
He said, “The elephants comes out from the upper Dehing block because most of the elephant corridors were blocked due to encroachment and as a result the elephants faced problem of free movement resulting in conflict. This was not the first incident, many incidents had happened earlier. The government should develop a proper mechanism to deal with the issue.”
