Celebrating Independence Day in a befitting manner, one youth named Deb Kumar Barman of Komrakata took the initiative of planting saplings in Hojai district.
Accordingly, he planted around 45 saplings at Komrakata Pathar road of the district, which don’t have a single tree.

Interacting with Northeast Now Barman said, “3.5 km area of this road don’t have any trees. Since some days I was planning to do something and hence today I decided to plant saplings.”
“I am confident that people will join me in the future and support the cause for the sake of the environment,” he adds on.
Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in the entire Hojai district.

Hojai DC Tanmoy Pratim Borgohain hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute of the march-past by security forces and NCC cadets.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life came to witness the Independence Day programme.
Several cultural events were organised where students from different schools, colleges and NGO’s performed.
The district administration along with the district industries and commerce centre also felicitated Lanka businessmen Rohit Agarwalla with the ‘Successful Entrepreneurs Award’.
Hojai’s Ajmal Foundation was awarded the ‘Best NGO Award’ for their enormous contribution in the upliftment of society.
Independence Day was observed at Rabindranath Tagore University as well where university VC Dr Amalendu Chakraborty hoisted the tricolour.
This was the first ID celebration of the university.
Hojai’s each and every institution- from education to business to government offices, celebrated the day with much enthusiasm.
