Sensation prevails after a youth, who was arrested in a theft case, committed suicide in the lockup of Jorhat police station.
According to reports, the youth committed suicide by hanging.
The youth has been identified as Sabir Ansari.

He was arrested from Dhakai Patty of Jorhat town on the basis of an FIR filed stating that Ansari was involved in stealing a mobile from a Muslim preacher.
The youth’s death during police custody has created a sensation in Jorhat.
The Jorhat Police took Ansari’s body to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for conducting post-mortem.
Talking to the media, the deceased’s sister said Sabir was arrested on the basis of a complaint that he had stolen a mobile phone from a preacher.
She said Sabir was apprehended by locals and after assaulting him badly, he was handed over to the police in the morning on Tuesday.
Sabir’s sister said the preacher lodged a complaint with the police alleging that her brother had stolen his mobile phone.
She alleged that the police are responsible for her brother’s death and termed it a “murder”.
