Younger people in the age group of 24-35 years in Assam’s Udalguri district have already got themselves vaccinated against Covid-19, even though India they do not fall in the age group that is being inoculated.

Currently, people in the age group of 45 years and above with co-morbid conditions are eligible for vaccines during the ongoing second phase.

The India government will be vaccinating those in the age group of 18 years and above during the third phase of the vaccination drive that is scheduled to begin on May 1 across the country.

The Indian government has also asked the manufacturers to reduce the high price of the vaccine.

“I got my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Udalguri Civil Hospital on Monday through a close friend working in the vaccination centre,” said a 24 year old youth on condition of anonymity.

In another instance a 34-year-old resident of Paneri of Udalguri district also shared his vaccination certificate on social media after getting the first dose at Udalguri Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, health officials of Udalguri who are looking after the vaccination drive denied such claims.

“At present, all those aged above 60 and those between 45-59 years with co-morbidity are eligible for the vaccine and we have not entitled young citizens as of now,” said a health officials
