Assamese film ‘Xhoihobote Dhemalite’ (Rainbow fields) directed by National Award winning filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky  will be released in Kolkata’s film and cultural hub Nandan (II) on Friday.

“In the divisive time that we are living in, we strongly believe that human emotion respects no man made geographical or linguistic boundaries. Time and again, the selection and acceptance of our film in different nooks and corner of the world have just re-emphasized our belief. Especially happy to screen Xhoixobote Dhemalite commercially in Kolkata’s cultural hub of Nandan as it is also a small steps towards expanding Assamese film’s reach to our neighbouring state,” an excited Bidyut said.

The film, based on true events, narrates the psychological trauma children went through during the period of agitation in the 1980s in Assam. The film features legendary Victor Banerjee in a key role. Supermodel Dipannita Sharma has made her debut in Assamese movie with this film. Besides, the film also featured seasoned actors like Nakul Vaid, Naved Aslam and Nipon Goswami.

In 2017, the film was premiered in prestigious Indian Panorama of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. It has won the ‘Best Foreign Film Award’ in the Hollywood International CineFest. The film also has own eight nominations in the Love International Film Festival, scheduled to be held in Los Angeles in the last week of July.

Talking about the film, Victor Banerjee said, “Working for Bidyut is a delightful privilege because he treats me with the indulgence that an old fool like me has earned and deserves. Bidyut’s almost unflappable personality makes it comfortable for every actor and in “Dhemalite” his handling of child actors will amaze audiences just as much as it charmed and fascinated me”.

Narrating more on his film, filmmaker Bidyut Kotoky said that ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite’(Rainbow Fields) is a semi autobiographical film.

“It is based on the life of children growing up in the Assam of 1980s, those violent times… and how that violence affected their lives. In this film I’m talking about Assam as I know her better than any other place. But the story of Xhoihobote Dhemalite or Rainbow Fields could very well have been a story of children in conflict zone from any part of this world,” he said.
