Even as the state continues to battle against COVID-19, Assam witnessed the first spate of floods of the year as two villages in Barpeta were affected by the flooding.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, around 630 persons in two villages of the Kalgachia revenue circle of Barpeta district have been affected by the flood.
The ASDMA further said that the incessant rain for the past two days due to super cyclone Amphan has led to the rise in water levels of many rivers including the Brahmaputra.
“The Jia Bharali in Sonitpur has been flowing above the danger mark,” the ASDMA bulletin informed.
Rising waters of the Borpani river have damaged one section of a road in the Rajaali village in Nagaon district, the bulletin added.
“Moreover, erosion was also reported at three different areas in Sonitpur district,” it further said.
