A signature campaign was launched on Friday at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati to convey good wishes to Assam’s sprint queen Hima Das.
Hima along with other athletes are participating in the Asian Games underway in Indonesia.
A board to collect signatures was set up in Dighalipukhuri in the morning and joggers and morning walkers signed their names and posted good wishes for Hima and other athletes.
The board was later shifted to B. Borooah College where students signed the board. More than 100 signatures were collected at the two places before the event was cut short owing to the torrential rain that hit life in the city.
An organizer, Kaustab Chakraborty, said, “We thought of organizing a signature campaign as people throughout the state are pinning hopes on Hima Das to win a gold medal. The campaign is primarily for Hima as her event is coming up on Saturday. A large number of people, including members of Assam Jogging Association and Assam Runners, wrote their best wishes for Hima. Students were equally enthusiastic. We collected more than 100 signatures. We have also posted on Facebook to reach more people. The wishes will be conveyed to Hima through her coach.”, reports The Telegraph
Two residents of Dhing, the place in Nagaon district where Hima was born, are already in Jakarta to witness her performance. Hima Das Fans’ Club in Dhing has arranged several religious programmes to seek blessings for Hima to win the gold medal.
