An unidentified man in his early fifties was trampled to death in Khalingduar Reserve Forest near Dhansiri Division Forest Office on Wednesday night.
The body was later retrieved and sent for post-mortem.
Locals have alleged that forest officials have not turned up for patrolling despite repeated pleas.

“We are keeping an eye on the movement of the herd which has come down from the hills in search of food,” said a forest officer.
“The State Government must look after the plight of the border populace and formulate policies to mitigate the same,” said Ritumoni Kumar, a local resident.
