Guwahati: A wild elephant was discovered dead near Rani on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam on Friday morning.
The jumbo’s body was found by a local in the area.

The man witnessed the dead elephant early in the morning and informed the forest department.

After the preliminary investigations by the forest department, the elephant’s death is suspected to be caused by electrocution, possibly due to contact with a live wire.

Forest officials stated that the elephant may have strayed into the neighbourhood in search of food.
Forest officials stated that it may be possible that the elephant was separate from the herd and unknowingly ventured into the human-inhabited areas.
However, signs of foul play are also being investigated by the department.
