DIBRUGARH: In a shocking case of alleged child abuse, police in Dibrugarh district of Assam apprehended Boby Kalita, wife of Dr Debojit Dutta, on suspicion of physically mistreating their underage domestic helper over an extended period.

Raju Bahadur Chetry, officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh Sadar police station in Assam, stated that the arrest followed complaints from concerned neighbors.

The victim is now under the care of Dibrugarh Child Line authorities.

Additionally, authorities have initiated case No. 136/2024 at Dibrugarh Sadar police station, citing sections 352/342/326/374/506/34 of the IPC, and sections 75/79 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, along with the 2014 Amended Child Labour Act, 1986.

Reports suggest that the doctor brought the girl, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, in 2013 through a transaction and she has resided with the couple since.

Chetry disclosed that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the doctor.
