Minister Nandita Gorlosa, has launched the dedicated website of ‘Moidams - the Mound-Burial system of the Ahom Dynasty.

Guwahati: Initiated by Assam Directorate of Archaeology, state minister for Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture, Nandita Gorlosa, has launched the dedicated website of ‘Moidams – the Mound-Burial system of the Ahom Dynasty, Charaideo, Assam.’

The newly launched website, developed in collaboration with the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON), an Assam government undertaking, exclusively highlights the Ahom era Moidams, their preservation, promotion and the detailed know-how of the site, Director of Archaeology, Assam, said in a press statement on Saturday evening.

This milestone indeed is a great moment of pride for the entire state and the Assam Directorate of Archaeology. Moidams – the Mound-Burial system of the Ahom Dynasty has been in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites since 2014. It is now under evaluation for inscription as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it said.

Reportedly, the 46th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee is scheduled to be held in New Delhi between July 21 and July 31, 2024, to discuss and decide on matters of inscription of World Heritage Site status of all the nominated sites, it added.  

The Assam government and the state Directorate of Archaeology are relentlessly working on getting the World Heritage tag for Charaideo since its inclusion on the UNESCO tentative list, it further said.
