In its first executive meeting, the Assam Volleyball Association (AVA) fixed the schedule of the tournament to be organized by it.

The executive meeting was held at DN Sinha Stadium in Lower Assam’s Goalpara district on Sunday.

The meeting was presided over by its newly-elected president and Goalpara superintendent of police, SB Sarma.

All the 41 members of the executive committee were present in the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, a press conference was addressed by the leaders of the new committee.

“We have fixed the schedule of the state level championship. According to the fixture, the inter-district senior tournament will be held at Boko in Kamrup (rural) district from December 15-17,” said AVA secretary Dr. CP Saikia.

The junior tournament will be held at Tezpur from December 20-22.

“The sub-junior championship will be held at Nagaon. However, the date is yet to be fixed. The mini tournament will be held at Nalbari district from December 27-28” informed Saikia.

Later, Goalpara district police chief SB Sarma told the media: “We discussed today how to better our performance in national level. The infrastructure and skill development issues were also in the discussion.”

Meanwhile, Asanul Ahmed, volleyball secretary of the Goalpara District Sports Association (GDSA) informed, “The Gorima Nath Memorial Inter-club Volleyball Competition, organized every year by the GDSA, will be held on December 10 at DN Sinha Stadium.”

AVA working president Pradip Kr. Hazarika and treasurer Mukut Gogoi also attended the meeting.

Besides, advocate Jiten Das, president and Ratna Das, secretary of GDSA were also present in the meeting.
