Assam: Union minister Rameswar Teli takes stock of flood situation in Dibrugarh

Union minister of state for food processing industries Rameswar Teli on Sunday took stock of the flood situation and waterlogging problem in Dibrugarh.

Teli held a meeting at Dibrugarh Circut House with Assam disaster management minister Jogen Mohan, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Lahowal MLA Rituparna Barua and deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha.

In the meeting, they discussed measures to tackle the urban flood problem in Dibrugarh.

Jha apprised the meeting of the flood situation in the district and the measures taken to rescue people and distribution of relief to the flood affected people.

The meeting also discussed the main factors behind the artificial flood in Dibrugarh.

The meeting directed the department of water resources to conduct a detailed study on the flow of water from Dibrugarh town and to submit a proposal to the Disaster Management Authority to construct an alternative drain to solve the problem of artificial flood in the town.

Minister Mohan after the assessment of the flood situation directed the administration to ensure the observance of Covid19 protocols in the relief camps.

Later, union minister Teli and state minister Mohan visited the relief camps at Chaolkhowa High School and interacted with the flood affected people.

The ministers also visited the Thana Charali to take stock of the artificial flood in the town.

Dibrugarh has been reeling under water for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday.

All the 22-wards under Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) have been submerged by flood waters.

On Sunday, the total number of people hit by the deluge stood at 58,175 with 4,889 of them are taking shelter in the relief camps set up by the district administration.

As many as 37 relief camps have been set up for the affected people.

Altogether 182 villages of the district have been affected by the recent wave of flood.
