Nearly 70-odd people comprising women folk from No 2 Ultapani encroached village attacked and vandalized Ultapani forest range office in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Monday.

At least four vehicles including a Bolero, table chair, official documents, generators were totally damaged.

Police detained eight persons who were involved with incident.

An FIR has been lodged with police against the incident.

Talking to media persons, the department of Forest said that the two illegal timber smugglers have been arrested and brought them to the Ultapani forest range office on Sunday.

On Monday around 11/12 pm the attackers group from No 2 Ultapani village attacked on the Forest office.

Hemanta Mashahary, Ranger of Ultapani forest range office said on Sunday night as per specific information ‘we have arrested two timber smugglers from the jungle indetified as Sumit Chumpramary and Tangki Narzary and on Monday morning the two arrested persons handed over to village Gaubura and later 80 people came and attacked our office and totally vandalized it’.

He said they have lodged FIR at Bismuri police outpost and police arrested eight persons from the village.
