Assam: ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah’s brother joins BJP’s ally AGP

DIBRUGARH: Bimal Baruah, elder brother of ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah, officially joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam, during a programme held at Chabua on Tuesday (April 09).

Bimal Baruah, who serves as a councillor of the Matak Autonomous Council, participated in a joining ceremony attended by AGP president and Assam minister Atul Bora, marking the inauguration of the AGP election office at Chabua.

Speaking to the media, Bimal Baruah expressed, “I have contemplated joining the party for the past week, especially after several members of the Matak Autonomous Council joined the BJP.”

“Our local MLA also encouraged me to join the AGP. While I could have joined the BJP earlier, given the state’s challenges, I opted for the AGP. The spirit of nationalism runs deep within me,” said Bimal Baruah.

Bimal Baruah, a retired defence personnel, is the elder brother of ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah.
