River Beki has washed away one-and-half-kilometres of the road at Chapakamar Chawk.

After visiting the erosion-affected area, the former Rajya Sabha MP was shocked to see the condition of the road.
Talking to Northeast Now after the visit, UG Brahma said, the Prime Minister’s attention should be drawn so that immediate measures are taken to restore the connecting road to the national park.
Brahma said, “Since Manas is a National Park, the Central Government should build a National Highway linking the park. Both Assam and BTC Government should move the Centre in this regard. We need permanent mechanism to protect the national park but every year we see this problem. This is a failure on the part of both the State Government and the Council.”
The UPPL president visited Chapakamar Chawk along with party leaders Rudhir Dwimary, Bicon Goyary and Pradeep Sarkar.
The former MP said, “A portion of about one-and-half-kilometres of the road has totally been washed away by river Beki within a month due to heavy rains. At least 10 villages have been severely affected by erosion.”
“Already a protection programme under Water Resources Department has been going on but its timely implementation has not been done due to which the disaster has happened. Now, the Manas National Park remains disconnected with other parts of the world. Prime Minister’s attention should be drawn that the road is required to be declared a National Highway.”
Brahma also said, “It is surprising that till date, no any BTC administrative official or Assam Government official or minister or MLA has visited the affected area.”
