The Udalguri District Election Officer (DEO) has written to the Additional Chief Electoral Officer of Assam seeking action against Chief Managing Editor of News Live TV Syed Zarir Hussain.

The Udalguri DEO has alleged that Zarir Hussain ‘seems’ to have propagated a ‘paid news’ in news broadcast in News Live TV on Thursday.

“…a news was broadcasted in News Live TV Assam at around 08-00AM today i.e. 01-04-2021 where replying to query of Nandan Pratim Sarma Bordoloi, Zarir Hussain directly mentioned that ‘Rihon Daimari is definitely on backfoot’ which seems to be a paid news,” alleged Udalguri DEO.

“This is for your kind information and necessary action,” Udalguri DEO added in his letter to the Additional CEO of Assam.

The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is a constituent of the Assam Congress-led Mahajot (Grand Alliance).

This letter by the Udalguri DEO to the Additional CEO of Assam seeking action against News Live TV CME Zarir Hussain has come at the backdrop of a major controversy that erupted in Assam over advertisements by the BJP, published in local newspapers in the State “in form of a news report for canvassing in favour of BJP to influence and deceive the public/voters for the remaining 2 (two) phases of election across the state of Assam”.
