In an unprecedented development, Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia has reported COVID-19 positive on Thursday.

As per reports he was under home quarantine for the last few days.

He was recently transferred and posted as Secretary, State Election Commission while CEO, Zila Parishad, Dhubri and PD, DRDA, Dhubri, Purabi Konwar has now been transferred and posted as the deputy commissioner, Udalguri, however, she is yet to arrive and take charge.

Talking to Northeast Now Joint Director of Health and Services, Dr Tayebur Rahman confirmed the report and said that the swab was collected and sent to COVID-19 testing lab in Tezpur Medical College where it is reported to be positive.

Sources said Gharphalia interacted with 5 National Health Mission (NHM) workers of Udalguri who later tested positive for the contagion. Following which he was suffering from mild cough and fever and was under self-quarantine.

Pertinently, the bureaucrat is the first Deputy Commissioner of Assam to report COVID-19 positive.
