Guwahati: Assam Under-16 team defeated the Bangladesh Under-15 national team by eight wickets in their first three-day match series played at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Bangladesh’s Rajshahi city on Tuesday, April 30.
Bangladesh U15, which conceded a 12-run lead in the first innings,could could manage to score only 154 runs in 57.4 overs in the second innings losing all their wickets. This left Assam needing 143 runs to win the match on day three.
Opener Julien Konwar, who exhibited a stellar performance with a remarkable 122 runs in the first innings, continued his splendid form by remaining unbeaten on 65 to guide the visitors to triumph. Captain Aman Yadav also contributed significantly with an unbeaten 50 off 50 balls. Assam finished off in style in 28.1 overs losing two wickets.
As the day commenced, Bangladesh U15 resumed their batting at 25/1. However, the team struggled to consolidate their innings as the Assam bowlers maintained a disciplined line and length, eventually dismissing the hosts for 154 runs.
Rahul Tamuli spearheaded the bowling attack claiming three wickets conceding 30 runs while Alham Wahid, Amit Choudhury and Manish Mahato sclaped two wickets each respectively. Julien Konwar’s outstanding display with the bat earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
The Assam team is slated to play one more three-day match and three one-day matches against the Bangladesh U-15 national team. The series will come to an end on May 14.
