Ramraikuti Satra situated along the India-Bangladesh border at Satrasal and Jinkata Rajahua Satra lacated along the Assam-North Bengal border in lower Assam’s Dhubri  district have been facing a severe fund crunch due to the lockdown imposed to contain coronavirus.

At Ramraikuti Satra, only two bhakats are looking after the daily affairs of the satra.

They have found it difficult to continue burning of ‘Akshaya Banti’ for non-availability of mustard oil and have been facing a shortage of other essential commodities, said locals.

Jinkata Rajahua Satra has also been facing similar problems since the beginning of the nationwide lockdown.

In normal days before the lockdown, a large number of visitors used to visit these satras and donate money as a token of respect and devotion, said a bhakat of the satra.

But after the lockdown was imposed, not a single person was allowed to visit these two satras, he said.

Jitendra Nath Prodhani, satradhikar of both the satras, has urged upon the government to extend financial help to these satras so that normal functioning of these historic institutions do not come to a halt.

Day-to-day life has also been severely affected for non-availability of essential goods as there is no proper arrangement in place for the supply of essential commodities to the needy families in these areas.
