Two persons died and some others were injured on Sunday when a sand-laden tractor-trolley collided with a bus on National Highway-17 at New Panbari area under Bogribari police station in lower Assam’s Dhubri district, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Abul Hussain, 20, and Gyasuddin, 37, who were the driver and helper of the tractor.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Kokrajhar Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

According to locals, the incident took place around 8 in the morning when the sand-laden tractor tried to flee from after seeing the enforcement team of Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI).

Traffic was disrupted for several hours on the national highway following the accident as the local people blocked the road demanding compensation to the deceased family members.

The bus was proceeding from Dhubri to Goalpara.
