The incident occurred when alleged illegal settlers clashed with police during an eviction attempt on a 100-bigha plot of land in the Kachutoli area.

The killed civilians have been identified as Haider Ali and Juwahid Ali, who succumbed to their injuries at Sonapur District Hospital.

Several others, including Revenue Circle Officer Nitul Khatoniar, and four policemen, and at least three civilians were injured in the clashes.

Serious injured persons were taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

According to reports, tensions escalated on Thursday despite peaceful eviction proceedings over the past three days.

The situation turned violent when residents attacked police personnel with stones, causing injuries. In response, police resorted to firing, which led to the deaths.
