Guwahati: At least 28 cattle heads were rescued by the police in Guwahati, Assam on Friday night.

A police source said that the cattle were recovered from a truck near Jorabat.

The said truck was intercepted based on inputs at a check post in Jorabhat, a source said.

On checking the truck (a container) bearing registration UP-21-CN-2107, the police found the cattle inside the truck with no valid documents.

On further checking, the occupants of the truck failed to provide any related document in terms of the loaded cattle.

Hence, the truck along with the cattle was seized on suspicion of a possible smuggling bid.

The cattle were allegedly being taken to Meghalaya and were brought from Jorhat in Assam.

The driver identified as Moksidul Islam (25) and two of his aides Muksarikul Islam (28) and Suhel Ahmed (20) were detained immediately for further legal proceedings. 

An investigation has been initiated in connection with the seizure.
