A section of irate people on Friday morning at Goalpara town in Lower Assam set an earth-carrying truck on fire when the driver of the vehicle failed to control it and ran over a child.
The mishap took place at Idgah point of Goalpara town which normally remains busy at the school going hours.
The child, Hafez Ali, who was with his parents, fell on the road and was run over by a truck.
The lower part of the boy’s body was almost separated from the waist.
Panicked at the sudden incident, the parents shouted in emotion and fell down upon their child who was lying in a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, a crowd gathered and chased the driver and his assistant who managed to run away.
Failing to catch the driver and his assistant, angry mob came back to the truck (No. AS18-1653) and began demolishing it.
The angry crowd finally set the truck on fire.
However, both police and fire brigade were called who arrived timely and with the help of the same crowd, the fire was doused, though major damage to the vehicle was already done.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first time that earth-carrying trucks have killed the passer-by.
Several other similar instances had taken place in the area by such trucks.
People have complained that most of these earth-carrying trucks have been running illegally without valid transport documents.
Not only that, “these vehicles also lack necessary forest challan to carry earth”, say locals.
