Assam: TRIFED Laghu Aadi Mahotsav underway at Kokrajhar

A week-long exhibition ‘Laghu Aadi Mahotsav’, organised at Swarkhi Craft & Café in Kokrajhar town with an aim to encourage local tribal artisans, has been underway.

Organised by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED ), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the exhibition showcases a range of tribal products including handicraft, cane & bamboo products, organic and natural products, metal crafts, etc.

Well-known Bodo film actor Fuji Basumatary inaugurated the Mahotsav.

Speaking on the occasion, Pratibha Brahma, vice chairman, TRIFED said, “Laghu Aadi Mahotsav is being organised to encourage tribal artisans especially those from remote villages. The Mahotsav, started on September 22, will continue till September 30, 2018.

She said, TRIFED is a national level apex organization under direct control of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs and is engaged for sourcing and marketing of tribal handicraft and handloom items through its retail outlets located all over the country as well as through holding exhibitions in all over the India so that large market could be provide to the tribal people of the country.

“TRIFED provides a wider range of platforms to sell their products with a direct link & contact with customers, from whom the artisans gets inputs like latest market trends and the products that are in demand, which ultimately helps the tribal artisans to make the products accordingly to match the taste of the customers so that those products are sold and gives them immediately returns,” said Brahma.

“We are committed to the cause of promotion of tribal handicraft products. Our focus is also on the empowerment of tribal artisans,” she said.

MR Singh, regional manager, NE, TRIFIED, said “TRIFED was established for marketing development of tribal products such as minor forest products and tribal handicraft products, by offering best remunerative price to the tribal artisans.”

Singh added that the objective of TRIFED is to promote the tribal products and socio-economic development of the tribes.

TRIFED has been imparting training to the tribal artisans to enhance their skills to produce better artefacts to match the latest market trends so that the tribal artisans get better price thereby improve their economic conditions and standard of living.

Actor Fuji Basumatary, who has been made the brand ambassador of TRIFED India, Bodo region, expressed her happiness to be associated with the tribal artisans through TRIFED. She said the tribal artists have enough talents and they must be encouraged.
