Dibrugarh: A major tragedy was averted on Tuesday after the engine of a moving train, Kamrup Express, got detached in upper Assam‘s Dibrugarh on Tuesday evening.

According to the information, the incident occurred at Chaulkhowa, Dibrugarh at around 7.30 pm.

The detached engine continued on its own trajectory for some distance before coming to a halt, leaving the stranded coaches behind.

However, there was no loss of life or property in the accident. “All the passengers travelling in the train were safe but the incident affected the traffic,” said an official.

The Kamrup Express left from Banipur railway station in Dibrugarh for Howrah this evening.

Railway officials were alerted and rushed to the spot to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the passengers.

Recently, nine persons were killed and at least 40 injured after the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express from Agartala was hit by a goods train from the rear in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, 11 km from New Jalpaiguri station.
