Assam government has decided to set up a museum in Guwahati showcasing the valour of Lachit Borphukan during the Battles of Saraighat.

It was decided in a meeting of Guwahati development department (GDD) chaired by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The objective of setting up of the museum is to introduce the young generation of the country as well as the foreign tourists with the significance of the Saraighat Battles and immense bravery showed by Lachit Borphukan, said a GDD official.

The weapons used in those battles will also be kept in the museum for display.

Suggesting that the museum should be named ‘War and Water’ so that Lachit Borphukan’s naval war strategies could be properly highlighted, chief minister Sonowal directed for taking steps to exhibit boats, war materials, cannons etc used in those wars in the museum.
