Assam police on Tuesday revealed that it has received sanction to release 56 foreigners that have been staying in the detention centers of the state over three years.
As per reports, the foreigners who have been permitted to be released were earlier residing in eleven districts in the state.
Moreover, the SPs of these eleven districts have also been instructed to complete the necessary formalities.
Apart from the addresses of the 56 detainees, the addresses of those who provided sureties for their release are also being verified.
It may be mentioned that in May this year the Supreme Court had ordered that illegal foreigners who have spent more than three years in detention centres of the state may be released after their biometric details were properly collected and stored in a secured database.
The apex court had also directed them to furnish a bond of Rs 1 lakh with two Indian sureties and give details of address of stay after release.
