Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader from Assam – Sushmita Dev has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
Sushmita Dev has been nominated to the Upper House of the Parliament unopposed from West Bengal.
Sushmita Dev is the first leader from the Northeast to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.
Dev received her nomination certificate from the returning officer in Kolkata on Monday.

“It’s an honour for me, I believe I am the first from Assam/North East to be in RS from Bengal. I will continue to work for the people & their greater interest,” said Sushmita Dev.

Sushmita Dev has been elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed after main opposition party in West Bengal, the BJP, failed to field a candidate for the by-poll.
Sushmita Dev had recently joined the TMC after quitting the Congress.
She has been assigned the job of looking after TMC’s operations in Assam and Tripura, which is bound for assembly elections.
