Guwahati: The Trinamool Congress in Assam led by former MP Ripun Bora has written a letter to the Chief Election Commission of India accusing the state government of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on Monday.

Ripun Bora, Ex-MP and President of Assam TMC in a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner stated of the continued presence of numerous hoardings across the state of Assam.

These hoardings prominently display various governmental advertisements featuring photographs of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam, among others.

According to Bora, the Model Code of Conduct, which came into effect on the evening of March 16, 2024, should prohibit such promotional activities.

However, the display of these advertisements raises concerns regarding the fair conduct of elections in the state, Bora stated.

In his letter, Bora urgently requested the Chief Election Commissioner to direct the Assam Government to promptly remove all government advertisements featuring the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Assam to ensure adherence to electoral regulations.

It may be mentioned that the announcement for the Lok Sabha elections in Assam was made on March 16, 2024.

Right after the elections, the MCC was imposed across the country.
