Showing off stolen gold ornaments in Tik Tok videos led the police to arrest a woman jewellery thief.
According to sources, Anamika Lahon, a married woman, who has also a girl child, worked in the house of Nabajyoti Payeng in Suruj Nagar village of Jorhat district, under an NGO called SAHARI.
She was handed over to the Payeng family in the month of February this month.
But Anamika Lahon, who keeps on changing her name, fled from Payeng’s house along with jewelleries worth Rs 4 lakh.
Nabajyoti Payeng’s wife Pallabi Phukan Payeng filed an FIR at Pulibor police station in Jorhat. The police also registered a case.
However, Anamika Lahon alias Popi Lahon alias Sumi Barua, who hails from Bedeti under Gohpur police station in Biswanath district, remained absconding.
But after a Tik Tok video of Anamika Lahon, wearing the stolen jewelleries, was seen by Payeng’s family members, the police were informed.
The Ghahigaon police with the help of women police personnel on a tip-off arrested Anamika at 11.30 pm on Friday from Dhupdhora Marami Centre in Gohpur.
She was taken to Gohpur police station by the police team.
Anamika was staying as a tenant in a rented house in the area.
The police traced Anamika as the daughter of one Bipul Lahon and wife of Manoj Bora.
