Three youths feared drowned on Friday afternoon after a boat capsized in Dangari river under Baghjan police station in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district after.

The youths– Rajkumar Tanti, 30, Rocky Orang, 24 and Lohro Orong, 48, all residents of Dighaltarang 10 number line, drowned in the river when they had gone for fishing in the boat.

“We have received information about drowning of three people at Dangari river today at about 12.30 pm while they had gone for fishing in a boat. There were eight people on the boat while the incident took place. Five persons have been rescued by villagers,” Tinsukia deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Bitul Chetia told Northeast Now.

A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched operation to rescue the missing youths.

A team of security personnel along with a sub inspector is also patrolling at the incident site from Baghjan Police Station.

However, incessant rainfall since afternoon across the district has disrupted the rescue works, DSP Chetia said.

The water level of Dangari has crossed its danger level, said an official.

An official said although eight people had gone out for adventurous fishing but two of them waited on the river bank, six went in the middle of the river while the boat they were oaring capsized.
