Three hours and seven minutes of non-stop rain on Monday night has left most parts of Silchar town reeling under flash floods on Tuesday morning.
Many schools within the town area has been shut down while many roads got clogged for which movement of vehicular traffic has come to a grinding halt.
Speaking to Northeast Now, Abhijit Das, who resides in Samshan road of Silchar, said, “I have not seen this kind of non-stop rain in the past. Never before water has entered my house, but this time, I too have to face this brunt of moving my belongings to a safer place.”
Rain waters has left many areas of town flooded, especially roads linking Civil Hospital, Ambicapatty and National Highway areas.
Many by-lanes linking them to Silchar’s main roads too are in a pathetic condition.
Roads being blocked on various areas has also resulted in traffic congestion in many parts of Silchar town.
Sandipan Dey, a resident of Silchar, speaking to our correspondent said, “What else can we do against mother nature, but, Silchar Municipality Board’s role in keeping the drains clean needs to be questioned. In various places, no drainage system and the outlet for water to go out, has been our curse.”
Though the skies has cleared from Tuesday morning, and the sun slowly trying to peek out from the clouds, many residents whole are going through this ordeal as of now, might get some respite by Tuesday evening.
