Three persons have been arrested with a fake gold artefact from a train at Harmutty in North Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

They were arrested from down Murkongselek-Guwhati Lachit Express at Harmutty Railway Junction on Wednesday midnight.

Sources said Railway police with the help of the activists of Durniti Birodhi Yuva Shakti arrested Sariful Islam, Sahabuddin and Sahar Ali and recovered a boat-shaped fake gold artefact from their possession.

According to police, the arrested persons are residents of Bangalmara area.

The three were carrying the fake gold artefact for sale in Guwhati, said a police official.

This is the first time arrest of a fake gold seller from Banglamara from a Guwahati bound train in the Lakhimpur district.

It may be mentioned that the modus operandi of the infamous fake gold trade of Bangalmara has changed.

Earlier the sellers used to lure customers by phone and duped them upon arriving at Bangalmara by taking huge amounts of cash.
