Guwahati: Tezpur University in Assam is on the verge of a complete shutdown as students declared full-scale civil disobedience on Monday, criticizing the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) for its continued inaction regarding the inquiry into absconding Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh.
In a forceful statement, the student body expressed frustration and outrage over the Ministryโs failure to honour repeated assurances about the inquiry. The students highlighted that deadlines set for December 9 and December 19, 2025, have passed without any official update or clarification.
โThe Ministryโs silence has now crossed 90 days, and today marks the 93rd day of total administrative neglect,โ the students said, describing the inaction as a serious affront to both the university community and the integrity of a central institution.
Declaring that they would no longer tolerate delays, the student fraternity held the MoE directly accountable and announced that they would enforce complete civil disobedience starting Tuesday morning. All academic and administrative operations at the university will be suspended until the Ministry takes concrete steps and ensures accountability.
The students warned that the protest would continue and intensify if their demands remain unaddressed, emphasizing their determination and asserting that authorities must not underestimate their resolve.
With the impending shutdown, Tezpur University now confronts one of the most significant student-led agitations in recent years, raising urgent questions about transparency, governance, and oversight in Indiaโs higher education system.
